Here are just some of the reasons you'll enjoy being a part of the Douglas Unified team:Strong ESL Program Bilingual endorsement to good use. Situated right on the border with Mexico, Douglas is composed of a population in which approximately 94% of the people are Hispanic. Of our 3,800 students, approximately 66% are English Language Learners (ELL) or Limited English Proficient (LEP). Our district has developed a strong English As A Second Language (ESL) program to serve these students. Our teachers are urged to get and maintain either an ESL or Bilingual endorsement and receive a stipend that is added to their regular contract amount.

Quiet Rural Lifestyle Douglas lies in the southeastern corner of Arizona on the border with Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico at an elevation of nearly 4,000 feet. We enjoy a quiet, rural lifestyle and one of the best climates in the nation. The community puts a high priority on education and its supportive attitude is evidenced in the programs and partnerships shared.

Team Environment Unlike the anonymity that can develop in large metropolitan areas, a community like Douglas fosters a close-knit team environment where bus drivers, teachers, administrators, parents, food service workers, counselors, nurses, teacher aids, custodial staff, and secretaries all pull together to make our schools and our students successful.
