Welcome to the Douglas Unified School District's Special Services Department

Over the past few years changes to our program to comply with both Federal and State guidelines have taken place. Part of the adjustment has involved a movement towards a more inclusive model of intervention, with all children attending school to the greatest extent possible, with age appropriate peers.

There is a Special Education program at each school site. DUSD provides Special Education services to eligible students in grades Pre-School through 12. Services are also available to private or home school students determined eligible by the Multidisciplinary Team.

At each school site an Educational Intervention Team (EIT) is identified where interventions and prevention takes place for academic and behavioral issues. When interventions and supports are determined ineffective, a multidisciplinary team convenes to review all data collected from a myriad of sources and determines a plan of action. This can include individualized assessments in the specific areas of determined need. Additional interventions, team collaboration, or individualized programs are developed when needed. When a problem is noted, teachers, parents, or principal may refer a student to the EIT team, at each school site.

DUSD also conducts Child Find screenings in an effort to identify students from 3 to 5 years of age with significant developmental delays who may benefit from early detection and intervention services. Child Find services can be initiated by calling the Early Learning Center.

Any questions regarding special education services can be directed to either the Special Services Office at (520) 364-2447 ext. 7101, or to one of the teachers listed below.
