More Able Students
The gifted program provides services for Douglas Unified students from the elementary grades through high school as well as students attending Loretto School. The purpose of our More Able Students (MAS) program is to extend and enrich our core curriculum while providing our students the opportunity to develop to their highest educational potential.

We'll transport gifted students by school bus to the district site located at Huber Middle School where MAS provides each of our gifted students with approximately two hours of enrichment each week. Critical and creative thinking skills are the program's main focus. Also of paramount importance in the gifted program is your child's social/emotional well-being, career and academic guidance, concentrated state-mandated academic exploration, and odyssey of the mind.

We evaluate students for participation in the gifted program several times during the year. The gifted coordinator or school psychologist administers state-approved tests in the areas of verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal intelligence. Students scoring at the 97th percentile or above gain permanent placement.

If questions arise, please call gifted coordinator Carol Lindgren at (520) 805-4129. Your questions are important to us and will be answered personally and kept confidential.
